Tim Russert died at NBC Studios of an apparent heart attack. He was 58.

NBC Senior Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief Tim Russert is dead. The longtime moderator of "Meet The Press" was 58-years-old.

According to the MSNBC biography on Russert, he was the Managing Editor and Moderator of "Meet the Press" and political analyst for "NBC Nightly News" and the "TODAY" program. He anchors "The Tim Russert Show," a weekly interview program on MSNBC. Russert also serves as senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC News.

Remember the horrible puppy-tossing incident?

Well, now the marines are being punished for it.

"The U.S. Marine Corps has disciplined two Marines over a videotape that showed a Marine throwing a puppy over a cliff, the military said Wednesday.

Officials did not specify the role that each man played in the incident, which received international attention after a video of it appeared on YouTube.com March 3.

Lance Cpl. David Motari is being processed for removal for his role, the Marine Corps said, and Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion also has been punished.

The video shows someone throwing a black-and-white puppy off a rocky cliff. The dog makes a yelping sound as it flies through the air.

"That's mean. That was mean," someone off-camera is heard saying.

YouTube removed the video about a day after it was posted, "due to terms of use violation," the site said.

The Marines were quick to condemn the video when it surfaced, calling it "shocking and deplorable."

Marine officials said the disciplinary action followed a thorough investigation, according to a statement that the Marine Corps Base Hawaii released Wednesday.
"The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated," the statement said."

It seems to me that lately the most upvoted comments have been a bit aggressive. Examples from just now:

Fellow Sifter and resident revolutionary dystopianfuturetoday just got his 500th star, brothers and sisters. As fate would also have it, he currently has the number 1 rated comment, but that should come as no surprise. Rarely a day passes without seeing a comment of his in the Top 5. High-ranked comments are par for the course for him. One can also usually find a video or two of his lingering in the Top 15. Needless to say, the guy has become a Sifting legend.

Now some will say that I'm heaping all this praise on DFT because we're gay for each other. I would ask that you all kindly refrain from such chatter, as Issykitty is already suspicious. For now, let's just say that we like turtles.

So give it up for my Sifting amigo dystopianfuturetoday for hitting this major milestone. I'm proud of what my friend has accomplished here. Now if you don't mind, we're going to spend a quiet afternoon together at the pet store.

As you well know, many Americans hold you at least partially responsible for the Presidency of George W. Bush. Although this 'Texan' was actually native born to Connecticut, he has still brought much undeserved shame on your proud state.

Today you have the power to change all that. Today you have the power to redeem yourselves and move forward. Today you have the power to stop the next megalomaniacal neo-con from taking the helm of our great nation. Today you have the power to stop Hillary.

So get out to those polls and vote and make sure everyone you know votes too.

I'm ashamed to say that my state of California failed miserably at this task, so it is now all up to you.

My sifting friend dystopianfuturetoday has finally posted enough videos about suicidal game reviewers, humping dolphins, and GI Joe PSAs to earn his 250th star. In other words, they'll give a diamond to ANYONE these days. He also earned a few of those stars from writing funny and insightful comments, so he's become a familiar online face in these parts. So stop by and congratulate him, and also check out his groovy new Dark channel too.

Maybe I'll think of something nice to say about him later. I'll have to run to the liquor store first.

At the moment, this is the description:

A home for all things murky, twisted, Avant-garde, noir, weird, disturbing, emotionally complex, sad, angry, depressing, darkly funny or even just literally visually dark.

I'm planning to tweak the description and look gradually over time, so I'd appreciate any ideas you might have.

With so many channels now (and more on the way) I do agree with blankfist that it would be nice to allow a 6th channel assignment.

PS: I'm looking for a new avatar for both myself and the channel. The one I have now is a pic of a beat up piano in an old abandoned insane asylum, snapped by and urban explorer. The full sized pic looks great, but the small one just looks like a regular piano. I'll probably try and find something else.
